  • What is an endowment?

    An endowment is a pool of invested funds, typically sourced from charitable donations, which provides returns or ongoing income for a designated purpose or for general operating support. 
  • How does the endowment benefit Milken Community School?

    Milken’s endowment is designed to keep the principal amount intact while using investment income to support annual operations. Preserving the principal provides a perpetual source of income for the school, helping Milken to thrive well into the future.
     
     
  • How does Endowment differ from the Annual Fund?

    Annual Fund donations supplement the School's operating budget and are only used during the fiscal year the gift was made. Endowment funds are invested to preserve the principal for the future. Investment income is used to supplement the annual operating budget.

    As of June 2022, the market value of Milken’s endowment was approximately $13 million.
     
     
  • Who sets the endowment policy?

    The school’s Finance Committee develops endowment policy for approval by the Board of Trustees.

    Like many non-profit organizations, Milken Community School offers its most generous endowment donors the opportunity to name a designated endowment fund after themselves or individuals they may wish to honor.

    Milken Community School offers its most generous endowment donors the opportunity to designate a name for a fund. Donors making gifts of $100,000 or more may direct their contribution to an existing fund or establish a new endowed fund for a specific purpose.
  • Can I create an endowment through my estate?

    Yes, a charitable bequest to Milken can be designated for the endowment. Contact our office to learn more at 310.440.3510.
     
  • Who invests the funds?

    Milken’s endowment is managed by external investment advisors overseen by the Finance Committee and the Board of Trustees.
