Student Athletic Leadership Council

Mission

The Milken Community School SALC (Student Athletic Leadership Council) strives to enhance leadership characteristics and elevate the overall experience of our student-athletes during their athletic career here at Milken. This group is a representative body of our athletes in grades 9th - 12th, composed of 1 athlete per athletic team/program. The student-athletes are nominated by their coaching staff and selected by the SALC Staff based on the athletic team membership, leadership skills, community involvement, and citizenship.

  • ADVOCATE FOR FELLOW STUDENT-ATHLETES

    The Student Athletic Leadership Council is the official representation and advocate for the student athlete population to the faculty, staff and administration.
    1. Student athletes are invited to seek the assistance of SALC members when navigating academic/athletic/performance ideas for the betterment of Milken athletics 
    2. SALC may advocate for changes between student athletes and teachers/coaches and athletic administration
    3. SALC provides a platform for suggestions on how to successfully navigate Milken Community School as an athlete
  • INSPIRE CHANGE THROUGH COMMUNITY OUTREACH

    The Student Athletic Leadership Council looks to inspire change by leading community outreach projects that empower others, uplift local youth, and demonstrate the true spirit of leadership through compassion, teamwork, and giving back.
  • CULTIVATE WILDCAT SCHOOL SPIRIT

    The Student Athletic Leadership Council encourages athletic participation and fosters support from the student community.
    1. SALC sponsors a program each season (fall, winter, spring) in an effort to raise awareness about the sport to the school community
    2. SALC makes recommendations to fans for appropriate behavior at all athletic contests
    3. SALC investigates ways to communicate athletic news through the website and the athletics coordinator
  • ELEVATE THE ATHLETIC EXPERIENCE

    The Student Athletic Leadership Council partners with the Athletic Department to provide student athletes with the best athletic experience possible. 
    1. SALC provides suggestions to the Athletic Department on improvements that can be made to the student athlete experience at MCS
    2. The Athletic Department consults with SALC when changes are made that will affect the student athlete experience
  • CHAMPION COMMUNITY OUTREACH

    The Student Athletic Leadership Council empowers student-athletes to lead with purpose, using service as a platform to inspire change, uplift others, and build lasting connections beyond the arena of competition.

    a. SALC will collaborate with external organizations to extend      the Wildcat spirit into the broader community through meaningful service initiatives.
    b. SALC will partner internally with the Athletic Department to create impactful, student-driven projects that strengthen our campus culture and support programs that align with Wildcat values.
