Over the next 5 years, Milken will invest the developing the experience of their programs through making the emotional, physical, and spiritual wellness central to the student experience and creating a culture of pride and ruach on campus and in the community.

Rationale

  • To respond to the grave national and local data about adolescents and mental health
  • To live our core values and to realize our Portrait of the Graduate.

    • Develop a Wellness Center
    • Develop outdoor spaces that promote wellness
    • Reimagine food services and nutrition on campus
    • Partner with a retreat location / camp for orientation and ongoing experiential education
  • Programmatic Needs:  

    • Infuse wellness education into physical education and advisory curriculum as well as all school programming.
    • Examine our academic program to identify stressors such as tests, homework, advanced placement program. 
    • Offer classes, speakers, and ongoing resources on wellness.
    • Offer drop-in counselling services for students.
    • Invest in training our community in positive psychology and weaving practices into our classrooms.

Rationale

  • To raise the profile of Milken by generating positive word of mouth.
  • To connect students  and families to Milken beyond their years enrolled. 
  • To move from localized, program-specific pride to school pride.

    • Acquire or build adjacent athletic fields.
    • Create shading and lighting for Middle School amphitheater.
    • Rethink on-campus signage. 
    • Reimagine the entrance to campus.
    • Create large and small gathering spaces.
  • Programmatic Needs:  

    • Create a structure in which everyone belongs to something greater than themselves (Houses).
    • Create mentorship programs for older Milken students to support younger Milken students in their House.  
    • Upgrade athletic program to increase coaching compensation, require comprehensive coach training, improved communications with parents, and increased collaboration with teaching faculty.
    • Execute a comprehensive rebrand of the School.
    • Develop a robust student ambassador program . 
    • Add a retention and recruitment lay leader committee.
