Over the next 5 years, Milken will grow current signature programs and extend and integrate signature pedagogies, while developing new, innovative signature programs and signature pedagogies.

    Grow current signature programs, and extend and integrate signature pedagogies.

Rationale

  • To respond to the NAIS study that indicates the importance of broad offerings.
  • To help define ourselves in the landscape of independent schools.
  • To recruit leading educators and students with particular expertise.

  • Facilities Needs:

    • Build a Beit Midrash and Israel center on the Upper School Campus
    • Revamp the Upper School science labs and build a middle school science lab and visual arts space.
    • Create an idea lab/incubator space.
    • Have classrooms reflect X-learning pedagogy. 
  • Programmatic Needs:  

    • Develop a clearer definition, curriculum and courses for each signature program that hit each facet of the portrait of the graduate and have a 6-12 grade arc
    • Build Tiferet into a multi-year Israel education program.  
    • Recruit talented faculty for each new signature program. 
    • Extend X-learning and Positive Psychology across 6-12 and integrate it into the Jewish Futures project.

  • Programmatic Needs:  

    • Develop new signature programs in areas such as dance, creative writing and journalism, and entrepreneurship.
    • Develop strategic partnerships in entrepreneurship with external organizations  such as the Tamid model at the University of Michigan to stay on cutting-edge of research and development. 
    • Develop strategic partnerships in creative writing with universities’ writing programs such as Penn’s Writers House or Kenyon Review.
    • Develop a strategic partnership with a local  professional Dance Company.  
    • Develop a signature pedagogical approach to how we talk about difficult topics and apply it to curriculum development and programs across content areas (Israel, Politics, Race).
  • Facilities Needs:

    • Build a performing arts center including large performance space, secondary performance space, and dance rooms.  
    • Create an idea lab/incubator space.
