The story of Michael Goldsmith ‘06 and Lisa Schlesinger ‘06 can teach us a powerful lesson in acts of kindness and service. While Michael and Lisa attended Milken together and later both practiced law, they never saw each other as romantic partners. Afterall, Lisa, after graduating from University of Pennsylvania and Cardozo School of Law, lived and worked in New York City and Michael, after attending Skidmore and Southwestern Law School, lived in Los Angeles. Despite living on opposite sides of the country, they kept tabs on one another through Facebook.
Lisa saw Michael in a new light when she saw his March 2, 2016 Facebook post. Accompanying the picture of Michael giving a thumbs up while strapped into a hospital bed was the caption, “Always jump at the opportunity to help make a positive difference in someone else's life. #bethematch.” Struck by his selflessness, Lisa, knowing she would be back in Los Angeles for Passover, reached out to connect.
When they connected in person in 2016, not only was Michael late, but he insisted on clarifying that it was not a date. However, that soon changed after they met up (and thanks to Michael’s friends who saw the potential in this relationship). They ended up seeing each other two more times during Lisa’s visit home. As they say, the rest is history.
Their connections while at Milken, including Lisa performing in Kol Echad alongside Michael’s siblings, made reconnecting easy. Michael proposed to Lisa in 2017 and they later married in 2018. Michael and Lisa live in the Pico-La Cienega area where they raise their kids, Charlie and Ellie. We are beyond excited to celebrate this Milken couple!
