Upper School Teacher Librarian

Primary responsibilities include: providing instruction in and access to information resources; cultivating and supporting usage of the collection of library, information, and curriculum resources; serving as a student advisor; and collaborating on school-wide programming as necessary and appropriate.

  • Cultivate a collection that supports the school curriculum and reflects the values, mission, and Portrait of the Graduate of Milken Community Schools
  • Support relevance of the upper school curriculum by helping teachers to connect course content across academic domains and authentically explore the relationship between course content, the
  • Milken Community Schools mission, and the Portrait of the Graduate
  • Design and teach research and information literacy lessons that are well-sequenced in terms of content and developmental appropriateness and address contextual and critical research skills, finding and using resources, understanding the difference between primary and secondary documents, evaluating sources, media literacy
  • Promote and demonstrate the use of new technologies and media to students and adults
  • Utilize collaborative and individual learning opportunities that support student growth
  • Develop learning experiences where inquiry, curiosity, and exploration are valued
  • Create a learning environment where students feel safe and welcome
  • Place a strong emphasis on learning and the important natural role mistakes play in learning
  • Demonstrate situational adaptability that balances the needs of social teens, the needs of the lesson/research, and teachable moments
  • Administer the budget for library resources and programs
  • Serve as a faculty advisor to a group of 10-12 students
  • Collaborate on school-wide programming as necessary and appropriate
  • Engage with students in the classroom, in the library, through office hours, extracurricular activities, clubs, and school-wide programming
  • Pursue ongoing professional development in the fields of education, information literacy, research, and library science
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, required; master’s degree preferred
  • Previous teaching experience at the high school level preferred
