The upper school Service Learning Program is built upon the concept of tikkun olam
(repairing the world). Students are guided to identify their service passions early in their high school career and demonstrate active involvement through all four years in the upper school.
Areas of service include:
- Work with children
- Elder care
- Hunger and homelessness
- Health and the disabled
- Israel and political advocacy
Past student service and advocacy expeditions have included:
- Washington DC
- New Orleans
- New York
- New Jersey
Milken has established the following guidelines for the community service program:
Grades 9-11: Students are required to participate in a minimum of 20 hours of community service during each academic year.
Grade 12: Senior students are required to participate in a minimum of 30 hours of community service with one not-for-profit organization.
