Milken Mini Stories: Art Exhibit and Town Meeting

Students Art Displayed at CSUN Student Invitational Art Exhibit

Several of our talented Milken artists had their exceptional works exhibited in the 21st annual High School Art Invitational at CSUN. Students from over 30 San Fernando Valley high schools were part of the showcase. The two- and three-dimensional pieces were selected from art and design teachers from each school. A variety of media were represented including painting, sculpture, ceramics, graphic design, illustration, and photography. “I am so impressed by the caliber of work that our students displayed this year. Each year the quality gets better and better. This was our best show yet,” said Director of Architecture + Design Institute Debra Sokolow. She added that Milken is the only school that shows architectural models. The exhibition ran from January 8 through January 27. An artists’ reception was held on January 26.

Congratulations to our students!

Extracurricular Town Meeting

Aaron Harouni ’18 delivered the senior sermon at the Extracurricular Town Meeting on Friday, February 9. He explained the importance of being involved in extracurricular activities and finding meaning in them. Harouni recounted interning at a hospital because he thought it would look good on college applications, but after meeting a cancer patient, he realized that the internship was about so much more. He explained the Jewish legal principle mitoch lo lishma ba lishma, which means, that an action which is done for the wrong reasons can eventually become an action that is done for the right reasons. "Do first, and understand later. If you really invest yourself, you will end up finding beauty and meaning in whatever you do," said Harouni.

After Harouni’s senior sermon, students got a sneak peek into all of the performing arts extracurricular activities available at Milken. The audience was  treated to a mini showcase highlighting the performance groups. Kol Echad, the Jazz Lab Combo, the Dance Team, and the cast of the upcoming Upper School musical “The Addams Family” all performed to an enthusiastic audience.
