Jacob Knobel ’04: Serial Entrepreneur

Jacob Knobel is a software engineer and serial entrepreneur who recently co-founded YaDoggie, a dog food company for the future, after leaving his position at Yahoo! in 2016. YaDoggie is a new kind of dog food company that pairs technology and convenience with healthy, high quality foods. Jacobs remarked, “We wanted to take our expertise and experience with consumer technology and bring it to a new industry that we felt hadn't had any serious innovation in years.”

YaDoggie offers awesome foods and uses technology to help predictively determine how much dogs need and when customers are ready for a new shipment. Customers can sign up and manage everything online, and the company offers both treats and food in easy subscription packages.

Launching soon is the SmartScoop component, which is an internet-connected dog food scoop that easily lets you know if the dog has been fed. Jacob founded the company with his long-term business partner who he met at Jewish sleep-away camp when Jacob was 14 (Camp JCA Shalom). Jacob credits his early interest in technology and entrepreneurship to classes and opportunities he had while at Milken.

Before YaDoggie, Jacob co-founded 12seconds.tv, an online video service for sharing short-form video moments online. He was also part of the team behind Rally Up which made mobile applications and was acquired by AOL in 2010. Jacob served as Lead Software Engineer at AOL Mobile in Palo Alto and New York City working on a variety of mobile products with AOL and Patch. In 2013, Jacob began working with the team at Tomfoolery creating apps for work until the company was acquired by Yahoo! in January of 2014. At Yahoo!, he served as Senior Software Engineer working in the communications group, primarily re-launching the iconic Yahoo Messenger and leading the iOS engineering team for that product. Jacob was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and graduated from the University of California at Irvine’s School of Information and Computer Science in 2008. He currently lives in Santa Cruz, California with his wife Laura.
