Milken’s Sports Science & Medicine Department physically prepares student athletes for the rigors of high school athletics. The department enhances sport performance and minimizes the risk of injury by improving strength, power, speed, and conditioning through a sport-specific program administered in a safe, competitive environment.
This environment is created through the professional skills of caring sports medicine personnel. The staff provides a program for the prevention of athletic injuries and illnesses, and brings the knowledge and training needed to affect recovery and return to sport performance and healthy living.
The Milken sports medicine team, comprised of a certified athletic trainer working in conjunction with medical professionals, provides a variety of services, including injury prevention, recognition, immediate care, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. When an athlete is injured, the sports medicine team collaborates with administrators, coaches, and parents in the education of the rehabilitation process while keeping them updated on the athlete’s progress.
Services provided by the sports medicine team include:
- Analysis of injuries
- Demonstration of physical stretches and rehabilitative movements
- Taping, bandaging, and stretching of athletes
- Use of modality machines such as ultrasound, stimulation, and hot packs
- Implementation of exercise and rehabilitation
