Faculty Members Present at RAVSAK/PARDES Leadership Conference

Several of our faculty members presented at the RAVSAK/PARDES Jewish Day School Leadership Conference.
Rabbi Gordon Bernat-Kunin’s session, Foundations and Practices of Israel Education, examined theoretical foundations of Israel Education in response to the challenges of David Hartman’s philosophies of Covenant and Zionism and a Melitz model of Israel-Diaspora relations. He also investigated the core tensions in the notion of treating a person in the image of God and debated the case of Gilad Shalit utilizing classical and modern sources.

Israeli Literature and Film: Inspiration and Critical Thought for the Reluctant Learner was Laura Sanders-Masset’s topic. Using a model lesson on the security fence, she demonstrated how Israeli film and literature can both spark the reluctant learner’s interest in Israel and encourage critical thinking.

Rabbi Shawn Fields-Meyer examined the complexities of serving students with special needs and the parallels of our challenges in the experiences of ancient texts in her session Wrestling with Angels: Special Needs and This Moment in Jewish Education. Read more on her talk here.
