Entrepreneurial Strategies with Jacklyn Rome ‘04

Jacklyn Rome ’04 is currently the Senior Director of New Business Channels for Blue Apron, a recipe and ingredient delivery service that has delivered over 160 million prep-ready meals to customers since its launch in 2012. Among other company-specific innovations, Jacklyn is responsible for launching a new on-demand delivery channel for Blue Apron that allows customers to order their meals in one hour or less versus one week in advance.

Jacklyn cultivated her passion for entrepreneurship early on and she continues to apply the business principles she learned at Milken and in college in her professional life. Jacklyn’s favorite class at Milken was Economics, which led her to study Business Administration in college. Jacklyn graduated from Boston University with honors in 2007 and went on to earn a Master’s degree in Finance from ESADE Business School in Barcelona in 2010.

After college, Jacklyn worked as a business consultant and created business plans for dozens of entrepreneurs and startups at Growthink.  She then made Aliyah and moved to Tel Aviv, where she worked in strategic consulting at Ernst & Young. Jacklyn credits much of her passion for Israel and desire to live in Tel Aviv to the time she spent at Milken and the values taught in the classroom, particularly through the songs and history taught in Hebrew classes. After returning from Israel, she spent time in venture capital in New York City, as the Head of US Operations for one of Israel’s most active venture capital funds with 60+ investments. In 2015, Jacklyn joined Uber’s Operations team in San Francisco, where she led competitive strategy for Uber’s most competitive market, the launch of ExpressPOOL, and the creation of Uber’s first driver loyalty program.

Evaluating entrepreneurial success requires a solid foundation of business fundamentals as well as the creativity to adapt to changing markets and consumer habits. Jacklyn’s work with entrepreneurs and high-growth startups has given her a valuable understanding of what she calls “the entrepreneurial ecosystem.” With the ability to quickly but thoughtfully assess the needs and opportunities of just about any business structure, Jacklyn will continue to make an impact on today’s most influential companies.
