Athletes Named to All-League Teams

Four Milken athletes had exceptional fall seasons and were rewarded for their efforts by being named to the All-League Teams of their respective sports. Max Ptasznik ’19 (Football), Jeremy Goldenstein ’20 (Football), Sasha Hakimi ’19 (Cross Country), and Chloe Saba ’20 (Volleyball).

All-League Prep (8-man) offense selection Ptasznik had a tremendous season playing offense, defense, and special teams on the Varsity Football Team. He took turns at running back, safety, wide receiver, and quarterback. When starting wide receiver Gavin Lieberman ’19 was injured and out for two games, Ptasznik stepped up to lead the offensive players and held them to a high standard, according to Coach Elliott Turner. He added that Ptasznik was also a mentor to the younger players. Ptasznik has been playing football since he was a kid and said it was a dream come true to come to Milken and play tackle football. “The game of football has taught me so many valuable lessons including teamwork, communication, commitment, and brotherhood,” said Ptasznik. “Football is the ultimate team sport and is where extended family is destined to be formed. My last season at Milken was a highlight in my life.”

Goldenstein an All-League defense selection, started on both the offensive and defensive lines— playing all four quarters, as the center and as the defensive tackle — on the Varsity Football Team. Remarked Coach Turner about Goldenstein, “The amount of effort and intensity he showed was the same in the first quarter as it was in the final minutes of the fourth.” He added, “He continued to push himself to new limits.” Goldenstein led the team in tackles and tackles for a loss. He did a great job rushing quarterbacks and forcing them to hurry their passing progressions.

“It is a true honor being selected to the All-League team and I could not have been more grateful to my coaches and teammates for helping me get to where I am,” said Hakimi on being named to the Cross Country All-League Team for the Southern Section Division 5 Liberty League for the third consecutive year. A Varsity member since his freshman year, he was the Boys Cross Country Team Captain this year. “Sasha is probably the best cross country runner we've had in the past decade here at Milken,” said Coach Damon Scoville. He praised him for working hard during the season and in the offseason, and for mentoring the younger runners. One of the highlights for Hakimi during the season was breaking the 17-minute mark in the three-mile race. And Hakimi noted that while the team did not make it to the next round of the CIF year, “the family bonds that were made within our team will stick with me for years to come.”

Saba, who played libero (a specialized defensive position) is in her second year on the Varsity Volleyball Team and was named to the All-League Volleyball Team. “I am extremely grateful for my coaches and teammates that supported me and pushed me throughout the season,” remarked Saba about receiving the honor. Saba lead the team in digs, serve receives, and aces was and second on the team in assists. “You don’t realize how good Chloe is until she’s not on the court,” remarked Varsity Volleyball Coach Lisa Steenport. “She does her job so well and efficiently that you take for granted her tremendous skills.” Saba was a consistent player and one of two players that played in all 72 sets in the season, according to Coach Steenport.
