March of the Living with Maya Aharon '04

Maya graduated from Milken in 2004 and went on to complete a bachelor's degree in Jewish Studies from Indiana University in 2008. After college, Maya taught 7th-grade history of the Holocaust and Israel curriculum at a religious school in the South Bay. Simultaneously, in 2009, she began staffing the Builders of Jewish Education’s March of the Living, a program in which Milken seniors participate annually, which takes teens on a deeply meaningful journey through Poland and Israel, centered around Yom Hashoah and Yom Ha'atzmaut, respectively. Maya participated in the BJE March of the Living as a Milken senior in 2004 and noted that the experience “ignited my passion for Holocaust education and became the foundation of my career.” Maya is now Director of March of the Living and works to instill Jewish ethics and values in all of her professional and personal endeavors.

Maya has been actively involved with Camp Ramah for many years, originally as a camper, then working as a counselor,  a staffer for the Ramah Israel and Poland Seminar, and later head of a division for three years. She currently runs a training seminar for new Rashei Edah, senior staff and division heads, at Camp Ramah where she helps them get acquainted with the organization and blossom into their leadership roles.

Camp Ramah will recognize Maya’s numerous contributions to the organization with the Alumni Leadership Award later this year.
