Girls JV Volleyball Triumphs at Dig Pink Tournament

Congratulations to the Girls JV Volleyball Team for winning the Dig Pink Tournament on Wednesday, October 25. They had a huge tournament, defeating both New Roads and de Toledo 2-0 and a big semi-final win against Trinity Classical Academy, coming back to win 2-1, after Trinity had three match points. The Wildcats then took down Holy Martyrs, who beat them earlier in the year, to capture the final game 2-1.

First year coach Javy Martinez was excited about the win, and gushed, “The success at the tournament showed what selflessness, hard work, and school spirit can accomplish. There was one game we wanted back all year, and it was our first game against Holy Martyrs. To end the season not only with the win against them, but to do it in the finals of our tournament capped off an amazing year. I thank all the girls for welcoming me as their coach, and thanks to Coach Lisa Steenport for welcoming me to the volleyball family.”

Hollander Gymnasium was packed for the six team tournament. The sound was deafening as fans cheered on their teams in some exciting matchups. It was must-see volleyball.

Dig Pink is the Side-Out Foundation’s national October breast cancer rally. Proceeds from t-shirt and snack bar sales are contributed to the Side-Out Foundation, which raises funds for breast cancer research. Many teams sported pink shirts, ribbons, or socks to show their support for breast cancer awareness.
