Robotics Coach & Engineering Teacher (Fabrication)

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Robotics Coach & Engineering Teacher (Fabrication) is a full-time teacher and faculty member, working in our Guerin Family Institute MIT-Inspired Fab Lab. Primary responsibilities include leading our Middle & Upper School’s robotics program, teaching one section of advanced engineering (Engineering II) and serving as an advisor teacher for upper school students. This role reports directly to the Innovation + Fabrication Instructional Leader.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities for this role fit into three categories: Robotics Coach, Fabrication Specialist & Faculty member.
ROBOTICS COACH
- Organize the program in relation to robotics team competitions and practice plans.
- Oversee all aspects of robotics for a particular competition, including the training and instruction of students to learn and compete to the highest standards.
- Apply knowledge of skills and techniques to assist students in reaching their fullest potential.
- Maintain appropriate practice and competition schedules.
- Provide leadership, demonstrate sportsmanship and be a positive role model for student robotic members to be enthusiastic and to demonstrate self-confidence.
- Establish the safety and welfare of the robotic students as the highest priority while using tools and in the Fabrication Lab.
- Properly instruct robotics students in the safe use and maintenance of equipment , tools and the lab.
- Build a positive team rapport that will ensure every member of the team has a role and is valued.
- Provide proper supervision of robotic students during practice, at competitions and on trips.
- In collaboration with the Instructional Leader and CFO, plan and manage the budget.
- Develop and maintain a positive relationship with students, parents, colleagues and other community members.
- Instruct students on Engineering Design and how to apply this concept to designing, building, programming, and testing a robot for robotics competition.
- Schedule and compete in season and in off-season competitions with middle & upper school students.
- In collaboration with the Instructional Leader, recruit students and adult mentors for the robotics program, which includes participating in off school hours admission events.
FABRICATION SPECIALIST
- Work with students and faculty in helping develop thoughtful, integrated projects.
- In collaboration with other staff members in the Guerin Family Institute, Fab Lab and Machine shop, ensure all equipment is operating properly & safely.
- Ensure all safety measures are being followed by students & faculty that are using the spaces.
FACULTY MEMBER
- Teach 1 pt 2 sections of Advanced Engineering (Engineering 2).
- Serve as a faculty advisor to a group of upper school students
- Serve as a positive role model on campus for all 6-12th Grade students.
- Lead & co-teach classes in other departments that use the Guerin and Fab Lab.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering and/or Education.
- Experience working with FTC Robotics (High School) and FRC (Middle School).
- Experience with CAD, CAM, 3D printing, and machining with routers, mills, lathes, laser cutters and other machinery.
- Experience coding
- Curriculum development
- Experience with power tools and their safety requirements.
- Professional and/or College level robotics experience, training, and/or previous high school robotics experience required.
Standard On-Campus Hours
Start: M - F by 7:45 AM
End: M - F 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM
*Hours will fluctuate depending if the Robotics team is on season or off season.
SALARY RANGE: $100,000 - $115,000
