Associate Director of College Counseling & Academic Planning (June 2024)

POSITION OVERVIEW
Milken Community School is hiring an Associate Director of College Counseling & Academic Planning. The Associate Director of College Counseling & Academic Planning is an integral member of the College Counseling Office, who will offer college counseling and academic planning guidance to students and families, perform administrative tasks that advance work on behalf of students in their college search process, and promote the success of the school’s overall college counseling program. This position will report directly to the Director of College Counseling & Academic Planning and is an 11-month Salaried Position with a tentative start date of June 17, 2024.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • College Counseling
    • Manage the college counseling process for 30-35 seniors and 30-35 juniors.
    • Meet with seniors as needed to create and finalize college lists, review essays, proofread/edit applications and resumes, etc.
    • Author personalized letters of recommendation for high school seniors.
    • Participate in all office-sponsored programming and show enthusiasm for enhancing programming.
    • Teach a college counseling curriculum in a classroom setting to juniors & seniors.
    • Utilize college counseling technology to both guide students through the college selection process as well as to upload/submit college applications and supporting documents and manage enrollment data.
    • Show willingness to learn new technological skills and/or systems in order to manage and assess current practices.
    • Engage in professional development opportunities, such as visiting colleges and universities throughout the academic year and attending national and regional college admissions counseling conferences.
    • Meet with college representatives (both on campus and through professional development opportunities) in order to develop collegial relationships.
  • Academic Planning
    • Advise students in grades 8-11 in mapping academic goals and course selection.
    • Understand and enforce academic policies.
    • Track and support students in meeting MCS graduation requirements.
    • Present on Academic policies and pathways to students and parents.
    • Participate in regular Academic Planning Leadership Meetings to discuss policies and course development. 
  • Milken Community
    • Attend regular Division 11/12 Meetings.
    • Demonstrate a willingness to become a part of the broader Milken community through participation in campus events, club advising, school committee membership, etc.
    • Understand and embrace the community’s Core Values.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s preferred.
  • Approximately 5-6 years of experience in college counseling and/or college admissions.
  • Find joy in working with adolescents and in school life; be able to listen, reflect, connect, and see potential in every student.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational, analytical writing, and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality with sensitive student records.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in Google Suite and Scoir. Blackbaud is a plus.
  • Engage with a healthy sense of humor, warmth, patience, confidence, and professionalism.
  • A willingness to try new things and develop new procedures and strategies as the College Counseling Team adapts to an ever-changing college admissions environment.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-traffic environment.

Start: M - F by 8:00 AM
End: M - Th 3:30 PM, F 2:30 PM

SALARY RANGE: $85,000 - $100,000
