Co-ed Summer Volleyball Training

Summer volleyball training sessions are designed for volleyball players in Middle School and Upper School. These training sessions will allow athletes to learn basic techniques, improve specific skills and practice in game-like situations. Players do not need to be present for every practice to participate.
 
Cost $250 per Session or $450 for both sessions

Both sessions are open to Grades 7-12

Basketball Summer Leagues

Summer leagues are designed for athletes entering grades 9-12 who plan on trying out for an Upper School team. Summer leagues provide an opportunity for athletes to experience and play in competitive game situations at various high school gyms/venues. Players do not need to be present for every game and/or practice to participate. Middle School students can participate in summer practices for skill advancement.
Participation in any summer athletics program will not guarantee a position on a team during the regular season.
Transportation will not be provided to summer league games or practices.
 
Boy's Basketball Summer League
  • Cost: $400
  • A summer uniform must be purchased in addition
  • Practices 2 days/week
  • Games will be TBD with at least 6 games during the summer
  • Tournaments may be added to the summer schedule at an additional cost
 
Girl's Basketball Summer League
  • Cost: $310
  • A summer uniform must be purchased in addition
  • Practices 2 days/week
  • Games will be Tues/Thurs June 18-July 11 (no game on July 4)

Girl’s Middle School Basketball Summer Practices

  • Mondays and Wednesdays June 17-July 10 (No practice on July 3rd)

Spring/Summer Football Camp

Cost: $175
June 3 – 28
Monday-Friday 3:30-5pm

  • Open to students in grades 8-12 for the 2019/2020 school year.
  • Practices will be held at the Middle School basketball courts and on the Upper School campus.
  • Two hand touch scrimmages and a 5 on 5 tournament will happen - time and dates to be determined.
  • Attire: Athletes should wear Milken shirts, black shorts, and proper athletic shoes. Tennis shoes on campus, cleats at competitions.
5 Reasons for all Upper School athletes to participate.
  1. Learn 'tackling progression' properly in a fun and slowed down environment.
  2. Enhancing players skills- participate in a series of passing, catching and running drills.
  3. Access to scrimmages against other players in our league.
  4. Able to defend and run plays against other players on a full-size field.
  5. Access to coaches for evaluations in preparation for college scout’s recruitment.

2019 Coaching Staff


 Volleyball - Lisa Steenport

Steenport is entering her twenty-second year as a teacher at Milken Community Schools. She is the Head Girls Varsity Volleyball Coach of both the middle school and high school teams, program director for the entire girls high school volleyball program, and Middle School Athletic Director. Lisa graduated from Ambassador College with a Bachelor's Degree in theology, then later completed her Master’s Degree in Physical Education from Cal State – LA.  Her most exhilarating coaching moment was when her 12U San Gabriel Elite club team captured the gold medal at the 2014 USVBA Junior Volleyball National Championships.
Volleyball - Leli Kiesler
 
Leli Kiesler is an alumna of Milken - class of 2005. She played for Lisa Steenport for 4 years through middle and high school. As a junior, she began coaching middle school volleyball. She was captain of her Varsity team as a senior. Leli went to USC where she played club volleyball and her team won 7th at Nationals. When she graduated, she returned to Milken to coach volleyball and worked her way up the ranks in the high school from coaching the Frosh/Soph team to now being the Varsity assistant coach. She has been coaching for over 10 years at Milken. Leli has run the summer program for the last 4 years.
Boys Basketball - Thomas Blunt
 
Coach Thomas Blunt has been playing and coaching basketball for over 20 years. He played professionally in Europe from 2003-2009. After retiring from his professional career abroad, it was a natural transition for Thomas to coach, mentor and train youth in the sport he loves. Thomas is currently the Head Varsity Basketball Coach at Milken Community School.  He is also the founder of HBT HOOPS, a competitive youth basketball program focused on basketball skills, such as form shooting, ball handling, agility, and strength and conditioning. He has over 10 years of Head Coaching experience and has coached multiple division one basketball players, including Indiana Pacers guard Aaron Holiday.
Football - Elliott Turner
 
Elliott Turner played in the heart of Football country, San Antonio Texas, from little league through high school.  In college, he played Division I Football at Texas Southern University as both Offensive center and guard. Coach Turner started his coaching career assisting his father’s NAJIFF team while he was in high school. In 2007, he moved to Oakland, where he served as Head Coach for the Football, Basketball and Cross country programs at Piedmont High School. In 2017, Elliott became Milken Football’s Head Coach. Since he began, two football players have received All-CIF first team accolades and two all-league awards. With over 23 years of coaching experience, Elliott looks to lead Milken’s program to an exciting and prosperous future.
Girls Basketball - Barbara Iversen
 
Barbara Iversen is currently Milken’s Upper School Athletic Director and the PE Department Chair. She has been at Milken since 2000 where she has an overall record of 251-153 in Varsity Girls’ Basketball. Her teams have won league 8 times and she has been the league’s Coach of the Year 9 times. Ivy has numerous awards including being inducted into the St. Bernard’s Athletic Hall of Fame (first female inductee), Mitchell College Athletic Hall of Fame and the Connecticut ASA Softball Hall of Fame.

Camp Refund/Behavior Policy

There are no make up days or refunds for camper absences. The camp reserves the right to dismiss a camper whose behavior or influence is detrimental to the program. In the event of camper misconduct resulting in dismissal, the camp fee is forfeited. All requests for refunds must be submitted in writing. Refunds are only available for registrations that are withdrawn prior to June 5, 2018. Registrations withdrawn between June 5 and June 16, 2019 are eligible for a 70% refund. No refunds will be issued after June 16, 2019.
