The middle school Service Learning Program provides an excellent, hands-on space for students to explore Jewish values while empowering them to become problem-solvers for our local and global communities. Students engage in both on-campus learning and off-campus direct service opportunities which will empower them to see themselves as social action-takers who can make an impact and help improve the lives of others.
Milken is committed to four areas of service. Students have the opportunity to engage in one area throughout the year.
“Share the Wisdom” - Seniors
Intergenerational relationships are valuable for our students and seniors. Through personal, meaningful interactions, students build relationships, empathy, and learn wisdom from those with more life experience.
“Eat Well” - Food Justice
Food Justice ensures that every individual in our community has access to affordable healthy foods. Students become informed and perform service with different organizations addressing the issue of Food Justice in the greater Los Angeles community.
“Next Generation” - Literacy for Youth
Students learn how early education is vital for a child’s development and future academic success. Students contribute to young children’s love of learning by reading together and sharing a love of literature.
“Get Green” - Environmental Sustainability
Students learn from experts how structures can be designed to promote sustainability. They will apply their skills by creating an on-campus retreat structure. Together, students will also work on a plan for sustainable actions to be implemented on the middle school campus.
