Sophomore Earns International Fellowship

Congratulations to Maya Robin ’20 who was selected as a Diller Teen Fellow. She joins a select group of tenth and eleventh graders from six continents. The international fellowship is a twelve-month program that emphasizes the core values of leadership, Jewish identity, Israel, tikkun olam, pluralism, and Jewish peoplehood. It prepares students to lead in their communities and repair the world. Fellows participate in monthly workshops and weekend retreats, as well as host a Diller fellow from Tel Aviv and travel to Israel for three weeks in the summer.

Robin, who is also a Milken Tiferet Fellow, is currently spending the semester in Israel. She was interested in applying for the Diller Fellowship because she wanted to strengthen her connection to Israel and advocate for the state even when she is in Los Angeles.

First learning about the program from friends, she was also encouraged to apply by her grandfather, who is involved in the Jewish Federation. When asked what she is looking forward to most about the fellowship, she responded, “I’m most excited about hosting a Diller Fellow from Israel and then going to Israel over the summer.” She added, “I’m really looking forward to making a deeper connection with Israel and teens living there.”

A member of Milken’s Global Beit Midrash, which is a program to connect Jews from around the world through common interests, Robin is passionate about helping in her community and being an agent of change. As a member of the Grossman Burn Foundation Youth Board, a board of high school students, she helps plan fun and effective activities to raise money for the Grossman Burn Foundation and advocate for burn victim awareness. She also works with mentally challenged adults in her synagogue.

Through the fellowship, Robin hopes to solidify her leadership skills and become a leader in the community. “I am so honored to be selected as a Diller fellow and cannot wait to establish connections with the other fellows, deepen my connection with Israel, and improve on my leadership skills.”
