Sean Rad ’04 Set Out to Write History

Sean has presented an incredibly meaningful gift to the school in the form of our first Alumni Matching Gift Challenge, 18 Days to Raise $18,000, but he has already been actively involved in giving back to Milken in various ways. Sean has been a Keynote Speaker at Milken’s annual Career Discovery Day and has held lectures and workshops with our students to cultivate their creativity and their entrepreneurial spirit, two pillars of Milken’s educational philosophy. Read about his most recent visit with students here.

Sean listened to his internal drive to solve very practical problems while still in high school, which translated into several innovations and business ventures in the social networking sphere by the time he left the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business. Sean went on to found Tinder, a social connections app that has, without question, transformed the way the world connects with one another on mobile devices. In 2016, Sean was awarded an honorary degree and delivered the commencement speech at the Undergraduate ceremony for the USC Marshall School of Business. Sean is currently focused on nurturing new businesses while working to cultivate new talent in the tech world. Sean’s Senior yearbook quote is especially striking, given his career trajectory: It reads, “History will be kind to me, for I intend to write it” -Sir Winston Churchill.
