Senior Selected Ventura Blvd Magazine Top Teen

Congratulations to Aaron Saliman ’18 for being selected as one of Ventura Blvd magazine’s Top Teens: 10 to Watch. Saliman, a talented writer and recipient of three Scholastic Art and Writing Awards national gold medals, aspires to use his persuasive writing skills for climate change advocacy one day. In college he plans to study the policy, economics, and sociology of sustainability. Aaron believes, that “the greatest threat to our species in the modern day is climate change.”

“Aaron is absolutely a young man to watch,” gushed Director of Creative Writing Melody Mansfield. “Not only is he a prodigiously talented writer but is also someone whose genuine love of learning knows no bounds. He is a voracious reader, and a passionate writer who has long been an inspiration to our younger students. We are all so proud of Aaron and are all thrilled about his future potential.”

Saliman attended the Iowa Young Writers' Workshop, one of the most prestigious writing programs for high school students in the country, in the summer of 2016. He also took part in the 2017 Kenyon Review Young Writers summer program and two sessions of California State Summer School for the Arts in 2016 and 2017. According to Saliman, his love of literature inspired him “to create a psychoanalytical journal of Ernest Hemingway.” Reading over half a dozen Hemingway novels over the span of two years, he analyzed the characters and themes to chart the author's psychological progression.”Recently Saliman, a National Honor Society member and academic stand out, presented a paper at the 12th Annual “Literature &” Conference on March 15 at the Archer School for Girls. His project focused on "Bisexual Erasure in Jane Eyre." A conference for high school students to present their original work, and are asked to connect their work to another medium, such as video, performance, or mixed media. Thirty one students from fourteen schools participated in this year’s conference.
