The Event: A Smashing Success

Billed as the biggest party of the year in support of Milken Community Schools, The Event did not disappoint. Over 400 people attended the sold out fundraising gala held at the trendy Unici Casa in Culver City on Sunday, March 18. The sole fundraiser this year, The Event supplanted the annual Aces Chai Poker Tournament and MPA Spring Luncheon. The Milken community came together in force to show their support for Milken, enjoying live entertainment, delicious food and drinks, dancing, and exciting auctions.

The energy in the venue was electric as was the entertainment, which included an LED stilt walker and Glow LED dancers who lit up the room in a visually stunning display of lights. An aerialist wowed the audience performing acrobatic and gymnastic moves, and a fire dancer welcomed attendees with unique routines with flames.

“It was an amazing event!” declared Head of School Gary Weisserman. “In addition to raising funds for our educational program, it was a truly remarkable — and fun — community event!  For me, though, the highlight was the 10-foot tall LED guy. I have to get that costume for Purim!”

A diverse group of Milken parents, board members, alumni, faculty, and staff, mixed and mingled throughout the eclectic space. The dance floor was packed as people, dressed to impress, let their hair down to groove to the beats of DJ Bino. Conversations and laughter floated throughout the venue. An all-around good time, folks connected with new friends and reconnected with old ones.

Guests also got caught up in the excitement of the live auction. The Head of School’s parking space was a popular item, and guests clamored to claim the coveted spot. It was such a hit, that Weisserman even offered a second spot! A 30-seat Poker Night with him was also in high demand. The silent auction included luxury items such as VIP Lakers tickets, opulent jewelry, beauty and wellness treatments, sports memorabilia, and more. A selection of items are still available for instant purchase here.

A common sentiment from people who attended was that it was such a great community building event. “The highlight for me was being part of something that brought our community together in such a classy and fun way,” remarked Event Chair Chareen Kossoff. “For me, it was all about community building and love,” said Auction Chair Ellie Cohen.

“Our goal was to bring together our community for a night of fun, laughter, dancing, and joyfulness while raising funds for our incredible school and all that it offers,” noted Director of Advancement Lindy Kadouri. “I am happy and proud to say that we exceeded our goals and we are excited to start planning the next one!” Thank you to everyone who helped make The Event a smashing success.
