Miri Cypers ’04 Stands Up for Social Justice

As a student at Milken, Miri was deeply involved with community service and social justice clubs and served as Student Body President during her senior year. Upon graduation from Milken in 2004, Miri enrolled at Columbia University’s Barnard College where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Middle Eastern studies with a minor in political science.

In the years following her graduation from college, Miri worked for Congressman Steve Israel, (D-NY), then as Director of Advocacy and Leadership Programs for Jewish Women International where she founded the Young Women’s Leadership Network. The organization provides young professional Jewish women with professional development opportunities and cultivates leadership skills and experience.

In November 2017, Miri was appointed Director of the Anti-Defamation League’s Pacific Northwest Office, based in Seattle, Washington. Her position as Director involves coordination of the ADL’s services and resources to the five states of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. One of the organization’s many programs promoting tolerance across schools, No Place for Hate, has reached thousands of students and educators across Washington State and Oregon. In the 2016-2017 school year alone, the program reached more than 3,700 students regionally, empowering them to combat bias, bullying, and hatred.
