Milken Tutors Encourage and Inspire Through Bridge to a Brighter Future
On any given Wednesday afternoon, a group of Milken students can be found in the computer lab helping sixth graders improve their math skills. As part of Bridge to a Brighter Future, the Milken tutors assist students at the New Los Angeles Middle School with their pre-algebra assignments during one-hour sessions held online in Google Hangouts. The tutors not only help the students develop critical math skills, but also provide them with encouragement and inspire confidence.
Aaron Saliman ’18 has been tutoring for three years and first became a tutor when his sister Mara Saliman ’16 ran the program. He is now the co-leader with Daniel Yadegar ’18. Participating in the program has been a valuable experience for Saliman, who noted, “Bridge has allowed me to appreciate the amazing education I took for granted, while also giving me a sense of fulfillment that I was helping others achieve their maximum academic potential.”
Milken students interested in becoming a tutor can contact Saliman.

A capella Group Visits Upper School

Tizmoret, a professional Jewish a cappella group from Queens College in New York, visited the Upper School on Wednesday, January 17. They put on a workshop for the Kol Echad students, leading them in a new vocal warm up, teaching them a new song to sing in harmony, and sharing tips on performance techniques. During lunch, the two groups discussed college, music majors, and Jewish life on campus. Both groups showed off their vocal chops and performed for each other. The Kol Echad sang two songs, impressing Tizmoret with their ability to sing four- and eight-part harmonies unaccompanied. The students had a great time interacting with the college students, making music, and asking questions.
