Milken Mini Stories: Israel Club Fundraiser and Middle School Student Social

Israel Club Raises Funds for Sukkah at Israel Orphanage

The Israel Club raised $700 from a donut fundraiser to support The Emunah Afula Children’s Center in Israel. The money will go toward a sukkah for the center. Jonah Lubow ’18, the primary organizer of the fundraiser, volunteered at Emunah during the summer.

Lubow explained, “I have so many happy memories from my childhood because I was fortunate enough to have a sukkah growing up, but these kids don't have parents buying them a sukkah. They don't have the money to afford a sukkah, so it was great to be able to provide them with something they wouldn't have had without our help.”

Through the Kol HaNearim volunteer group, which brings high school volunteers to Israel to organize summer camps for orphans and at risk children, Lubow and other Milken students, helped provide an awesome summer camp experience. Lubow participated with the children in activities such as field trips around Israel, hiking, sports, board games, and water fights, which provided a welcome respite with temperatures topping 100 degrees on most days.

Middle School Student Social

Games, dancing, and fun were the order of the night at the Middle School Student Social on October 10. The emoji-themed event, held in the community room, featured famous icons everywhere, from light-up rings to beach balls. A photo booth was a big hit, capturing shots of students posing with a variety of silly props. There were plenty of games such as Dance Revolution, FIFA Soccer and other Xbox games, emoji Twister, and even a retro Donkey Kong arcade with 60 games. Music blasted from the Welcome Plaza, and students noshed on pizza and emoji-themed cupcakes during this awesome event.
