Dig Pink Volleyball Tournament Rallies for Cause

Hollander Gymnasium was the place to be on Thursday, September 28 for the annual Dig Pink Varsity Wildcat Tournament. Eight teams competed in the tournament to benefit the Side-Out Foundation, a nonprofit that raises awareness and funds for breast cancer. The atmosphere was as electric as the teams, with many sporting pink shirts, ribbons, or socks. It was an afternoon of highly competitive volleyball, and the fans loudly cheered them on. The excitement and enthusiasm of the players, coaches, and fans was palpable. Archer came out on top, but everyone who competed was a winner in this awesome tournament.

This marks the 20th anniversary of the Milken Varsity Volleyball Tournament and the 9th year it has been a Dig Pink tournament. Tournament Director and Girls Varsity Volleyball Coach Lisa Steenport remarked, "In the twenty years that this tournament has been held, this was probably the most evenly matched group of teams to attend. Six of the eight schools are currently in their respective CIF divisions. There was incredible sportsmanship demonstrated by coaches, players, officials, and fans. It was a remarkable event that Milken is very proud to host." To date, the Dig Pink tournaments have raised nearly $14,000 and Steenport hopes they will top $15,000 this year. All proceeds from t-shirt and snack bar sales are contributed to the Side-Out Foundation.

If you weren’t able to make it out to the Varsity tournament, the Frosh/Soph tournament will be held on October 19 and the JV tournament is October 25. Stop by and purchase a Dig Pink shirt and watch some competitive volleyball for a great cause.
