Varsity Football Ready for New Season

Elliott Turner, the new Milken Varsity Football coach, is looking forward to the upcoming season and expects the team to be competitive. A young team consisting of two seniors, four juniors, eight sophomores, and four freshmen—they lost a number of upperclassmen from last year. Turner is changing up the offense a bit and noted, “The offense this year is a very fast paced power run formation. Instead of letting the defense dictate what we do, we make the defense adapt to speed, pace, and plays. It is a very aggressive offense.” Daniel Schrager ’19—who was the backup quarterback last year and was out for the season with an injury—is the new quarterback. He is excited about leading the offense this year.

A few stand out players to look out for this season include running back and safety #32 Yoni Ben-Naim ’18, center and defensive end #55 Jordan Kalman ’18, wide receiver/cornerback #4 Gavin Lieberman ’19, and wide receiver/cornerback #28 Zech Humphreys ’20. “My expectation of our student athletes this season is for them to do the little things right! If we do the little things right, then we will play at a high level,” commented Turner.

The team opens their season with a home game at Pierce College against East Valley High School on September 7.
