Class of 2017 Celebrated at Commencement

Excitement was in the air at Milken’s twenty-sixth annual commencement on Sunday, June 4. One hundred thirty-eight seniors received their diplomas and officially joined the ranks of alumni. Proud family members, friends, faculty, and staff filled Sinai Temple, where graduation was held for the first time.

President Metuka Benjamin welcomed the audience and challenged the Class of 2017 to use what they learned at Milken to be leaders on college campuses. Gary Weisserman, Head of School, encouraged students to find meaning, and to balance tradition and innovation.

Speeches were delivered by three student speakers. Ziv Batscha delivered the Hebrew Address and implored his classmates to create a legacy that they can be proud off. Salutorian Jack Isen explained how items in locker represented all of his successes and failures of the school year and noted that the greatest failures are the catalyst for the greatest successes. Tammy Shine, the Class of 2017’s valedictorian, expressed the importance of balancing realism and aspiration.

The ceremony also included performances by the Milken Jazz Ensemble and
Kol Echad, which featured senior solos.

Congratulations to the Class of 2017!
