The Guerin Institute, located on the Upper School campus, houses the area's only MIT-Inspired FAB LAB, joining a global network of FAB LABS. The comprehensively advanced science facility houses a CAD Lab, engineering lab, and an international classroom designed to connect students with a global community of professional and educational resources.
Equipped with 3D printers, laser cutters, a milling machine, and programming tools, The Guerin Institute has been a welcome hub on campus encouraging hands-on student exploration, imagination, and invention. In our computer-aided design lab, students convert their ideas into models. In the engineering workshop, students manipulate state-of-the-art tools to build working versions of their innovations. The global classroom allows students the opportunity to interact with professionals – like NASA engineers, Technion scientists, and astronauts – and college professors at MIT, CalTech, UCLA, USC, among others throughout the world.
Students are encouraged and inspired to become innovators and entrepreneurs, with several who even own and operate their own successful businesses. They even compete nationally and internationally in notable science contests, often winning prestigious awards and recognitions.
The design of the facility includes glass walls and open spaces invite people to observe, collaborate and innovate at the highest level of detail. A centerpiece on campus, The Guerin is also an attractive meeting space, which accommodates classes and special events, and students and faculty from all disciplines have utilized the tools, technology, and training available. The sky is the limit when it comes to what you can create in this digital workshop.
It's not enough to just offer great science facilities. The Guerin Institute offers an education like no other school. We believe in integrated STEM, and our innovative technique for teaching impacts all areas of study. Our educators believe that if a student thinks they can do something, that it’s our job to help them achieve their dreams.
Students learn in an atmosphere that is devoted to helping them achieve new things, and Milken is devoted to empowering students to make a difference in the world. From generating 3D printed artificial limbs to attempting to break Guinness World Records, students are encouraged to push the boundaries of the traditional classroom and reach beyond where they imagined possible. Our technique prepares students for the world that will be, rather than the world as it is. This level of learning not only improves the educational experience as a whole, it also offers students an edge when applying for college.
