  • 3D Game Design with Unity

3D Game Design is for avid gamers and aspiring technical artists who want to learn how their favorite games like Temple Run and Pokémon GO are made. The best way to do that? Create your own! Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of game design by creating a basic playable game. Our young designers will utilize the game engine's terrain editor to create environments and will be introduced to object-oriented programming with C# by creating interactive game objects. By the end of the session, students will leave with a personalized 3D game they can share with friends and family.
  • Android App Design with App Inventor 2

App Academy invites kids to design, prototype, and test their very own apps while learning the basic principles of programming. Students will use MIT's App Inventor 2, which allows first-time programmers to experience larger programming concepts through drag-and-drop block coding, increasing efficiency while diminishing bugs. This also allows for an initial implementation of a higher level of design and creativity for first-time coders. Students will design mobile and platform specific applications that range from games to daily life organization to robotic controllers.

  • Inventor, Coder, Maker Workshop

The digital and physical worlds come together in this creative workshop environment. Participants will explore the techniques – rapid prototyping, purposeful iteration, and repeated cycles of prediction and reflection – of leading innovators and designers. Students will learn coding languages to program an arduino that can light up a t-shirt, control an electric car, or control the extruder on a custom 3D printer. Students will create their own automated art or photography device, design a game for peers to play, or explore solutions to the water shortage in California. In this workshop there are no limits as long as you bring your ideas and imagination.
  • Finance, Investment & Entrepreneurship

Who wants to be a billionaire? In this exciting summer program, we may not get you all the way there, but participants will learn the mathematics behind investment and financial management strategies that guide today’s brokers, venture capitalists, and entrepreneurs. This class will include a mix of games, role-play, and case studies that aim to give students experiences where they will explore and discover financial lessons in a low-stakes environment. We aim to break complex financial strategies into smaller formative pieces and de-mystify the investment industry for young entrepreneurs. If you are ready to begin growing your own mini-empire of financial success this summer and well into their future, this class is the right one for you.
  • Digital Film Making

Why do movies have such power over us? Have you ever wanted to tell your own stories through filmmaking? This creative summer program will take you through the process of creating your own stories and looking at how and why our favorite movie moments stick with us. The class will explore each step of the filmmaking process from outline to pitch to screenwriting to storyboarding to composing shots to editing and other elements of post-production. Why just see movies this summer when you can make your own instead?
