Tuition and Tuition Assistance

Milken Community School takes pride in being a community of economically diverse students and families with a commitment to the Jewish values of balancing personal dignity and communal responsibility. The Board of Trustees recognizes that economic diversity enriches the educational opportunities for all families and that the participation of a wide range of families is critical to embracing our mission of educating our children so they can surpass us.

At Milken, we value the importance of tuition assistance in building and sustaining our community whereby nearly 40% of our students receive some percentage of tuition assistance to support their education. Additionally, Milken leads the independent school landscape with offering tuition assistance at over 20% of gross tuition. The average among LA independent schools is 13%. As a Jewish community school, we take pride in our commitment to providing a Milken education to so many members of our greater Los Angeles Jewish community.

Tuition Assistance is available to assist with the payment of tuition and is awarded without regard to race, color, national and ethnic origin, gender or sexual orientation.

  • Tuition Assistance at Milken

At Milken, we believe that every mission-appropriate child should have the opportunity to attend our school. One of our core values is Kehillah, building a joyful, and welcoming community. Our community is comprised of families whose diversity enrich the education of all of us. Tuition assistance is just one of the ways we can ensure that our community is robust and fulfills the mission of educating our children so they can surpass us.

The Tuition Assistance Committee reviews all applications and offers tuition assistance within our own budgetary constraints to families who qualify based on demonstrated financial need. While we encourage applications from new and returning families, please understand that it is possible that not all who apply will qualify.

Financial Aid Process

List of 3 items.

  • STEP 1: Submit Parent Financial Statement

To assist us in objectively assessing what a family is able to pay toward tuition, we work with a third party, School and Student Services by NAIS (SSS). SSS estimates a family’s ability to pay based on the materials submitted; we use those figures as the baseline for our determinations, taking into consideration school policies and the resources available for returning students. All information submitted is kept strictly confidential.

To begin the application process, go to the SSS website. The school code for Milken is 904920.
  • STEP 2: Provide Additional Documentation

After you submit the online application, SSS will confirm receipt of the Parent Financial Statement (PFS) and will notify you of the additional documents that must be provided. Required documents are:

    • Tax returns for 2019 and 2020; if you submitted 2019 returns last year, and are using the same email address as last year, there is no need to resubmit those forms.
    • Form W-2 from your employer; if you do not get a W-2, please select NA in your SSS application in the Required Documents section.
    • If you are a partner in a partnership or a shareholder in an S-Corp please upload to your student's folder in the SSS portal all relevant K1s. If your share in either is 25% or greater, please also upload the corresponding 1120s, and/or 1065s. A current credit report is also required as part of your application if you are a business owner and do not receive a W2.
All documents should be uploaded to the SSS website by December 2, 2020 (new to Milken families should upload their documents to the SSS website by December 16, 2020).

Your 2019 tax forms, or valid from 4868 requesting an extension, must be filed by April 15, 2020.

Please do not send any documents directly to Milken. In order to protect your confidential information, any information sent to Milken will be immediately deleted and/or shredded.

If you have questions regarding the online application or require assistance uploading documents please call SSS at 800.344.8328.
  • STEP 3: Tuition Assistance Awards

If your application is submitted by the deadlines listed on this page, you will be notified of your preliminary tuition assistance award with the issuance of the Enrollment Agreement for 2021-2022 (if your child is accepted to Milken).

If your application is late, it will not be considered until the end of the awards process. If the tuition assistance budget has been exhausted by that time, you may be placed on a tuition assistance waitlist.

Key Dates

The first day to submit the Parents' Financial Statement (PFS) is October 5, 2020. Please do not begin your submission prior to this date or your application may be lost.
