The Financial Aid Process

The Board of Trustees recognizes that economic diversity enriches the educational opportunities for all families and that the participation of a wide range of families is critical to embracing our goal of sharp minds, generous hearts and kind souls.

The Financial Aid Committee reviews all applications and offers financial aid within our own budgetary constraints to families who qualify based on financial need. While we encourage applications from new and returning families, please understand that it is possible that not all who apply will qualify.

  • STEP 1: Submit Parent Financial Statement

    To assist us in objectively assessing what a family is able to pay toward tuition, we work with a third party, School and Student Services by NAIS (SSS). SSS estimates a family’s ability to pay based on the materials submitted; we use those figures as the baseline for our determinations, taking into consideration school policies and the resources available for returning students. All information submitted is kept strictly confidential.

    To begin the application process, go to the SSS website. The school code for Milken is 904920.
  • STEP 2: Provide Additional Documentation

    After you submit the online application, SSS will confirm receipt of the Parent Financial Statement (PFS) and will notify you of the additional documents that must be provided. Required documents are:

    • Tax returns for 2018 and 2019; if you submitted 2018 returns last year, and are using the same email address as last year, there is no need to resubmit those forms.
    • Form W-2 from your employer; if you do not get a W-2, please select NA in your SSS application in the Required Documents section.
    • Form 4506T-EZ; also available on the SSS website: click 4506 and then 4506T-EZ.
    • If you are a partner in a partnership or a shareholder in an S-Corp please upload to your student's folder in the SSS portal all relevant K1s. If your share in either is 25% or greater, please also upload the corresponding 1120s, and/or 1065s. A current credit report is also required as part of your application if you are a business owner and do not receive a W2.
    All documents should be uploaded to the SSS website by December 2, 2019 (new to Milken families should upload their documents to the SSS website by December 9, 2019.

    Your 2019 tax forms, or valid from 4868 requesting an extension, must be filed by April 16, 2019.

    If you prefer, you can send these documents by surface mail, but please understand that this may cause a delay in processing. Please do not send any documents directly to Milken. In order to protect your confidential information, any information sent to Milken will be immediately deleted and/or shredded.

  • STEP 3: Financial Aid Awards

    If your application is submitted by the deadlines listed on this page, you will be notified of your preliminary financial aid award with the issuance of the Enrollment Agreement for 2019-2020 (if your child is accepted to Milken).

    If your application is late, it will not be considered until the end of the awards process. If the financial aid budget has been exhausted by that time, you might be placed on a financial aid waitlist.

    SSS will use the financial information in the PFS itself to evaluate a family’s situation, and automatically apply a waiver if the family qualifies under criteria using Federal poverty guidelines as a starting point, combined with a cutoff for families with substantial assets. Financial Aid Schedule 2019-2020

The first day to submit the Parents' Financial Statement (PFS) is October 2, 2019. Please do not begin your submission prior to this date or your application may be lost.

Deadlines to complete the SSS online Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) and to submit supporting documents are:
  • December 2, 2019: PFS for all students, whether or not currently receiving aid due
  • December 9, 2019: New to Milken families must submit the PFS
  • April 15, 2020: 2019 tax returns or extension for ALL students due

Federation Scholarship

Eligibility for a Federation Scholarship to attend a Jewish Day School


The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles works to identify and address the greatest challenges and opportunities in Los Angeles, Israel and around the world. The Jewish Federation has partnered with Jewish day schools for over 30 years to provide financial aid to offset the costs of attending a Jewish day school. Partnering with elementary, middle, and high schools across all denominations, the Federation’s goal is to help make Jewish day school accessible to more families.

Milken is one of those partners. We are proud to work with the Jewish Federation to provide financial aid to offset the cost of attending Milken.
