Milken's Advisory Program gives students social, spiritual, emotional, and academic support, while educating and challenging students regarding the mission and values of the school. Additionally, the program:

  • Designates for each student one adult who takes a special interest in all aspects of the his/her life at Milken and facilitates communication between the student, faculty, administration, and parents.
  • Helps students develop personal direction ( Kavana - כוונה) in the realms of learning (Torah - תורה ), spiritual practice (Avodah - עבודה), and ethical action (Gemilut Hasadim - גמלות חסדים).
  • Provides a safe environment in which students are engaging in the act of Ezer-Kenegdo - עזר-כנגדו  (supportive and challenging relationships) and developing self-advocacy skills.
  • Maximizes the opportunities inherent in a pluralistic community.

Advisory supports and challenges the whole student

In order to support and challenge the whole student in the context of a pluralistic community:

Advisors will support academic, emotional, and social growth, and will facilitate communication between student, parents, faculty, and administration.

Advisors will educationally challenge advisees based on mission and values of the school:

  • Helping students develop character (tikkun atzmi or middot), independence, and responsibility
  • Helping students develop personal direction in the realms of learning (Torah), spiritual practice (Avodah) and ethical action (Gemilut hasidim)
