Testing A dvice for Grade 12
SAT Reasoning Test (formerly SAT I)
Seniors who wish to retake the SAT Reasoning Test have three opportunities to do so in the fall of their senior year. The test is administered in October, November, and December each year. Students who are applying to any college as an early decision or early action candidate are advised to take the SAT Reasoning Test no later than November. Almost every college and university, including the University of California, will accept December test scores from regular decision applicants.
SAT Subject Tests (formerly SAT II: Subject Tests)
Seniors who have not yet completed their SAT Subject Tests, or who wish to retake an SAT Subject Test, may do so in October, November, and/or December. The Office of College Counseling recommends that students only take literature, language, or Mathematics Level 2 in the senior year because these tests are not tied to any particular course. Students who, for example, took a physics course in Grade 11 will probably forget most of what they learned by October or November of Grade 12. Similarly, students who are taking a course in their senior year should not take the SAT Subject Test in that subject during the fall of the senior year because the student will not have learned enough in the class at that point to do well on the SAT Subject Test.
ACT with Writing
Seniors who wish to take or retake the ACT may do so in September, October, or December of senior year.
