Testing Advice for Grade 9
The Office of College Counseling does not recommend any standardized tests for Grade 9 students. Beginning in Grade 9, all tests taken become a part of the student’s official testing record that is sent to colleges. Generally speaking, student skills in Grade 9 are not sufficient enough to warrant taking a national test designed for older students. In some circumstances, however, it may be appropriate for a Grade 9 student in an upper level honors class to take an SAT Subject Test at the end of a yearlong course. For example, if a Grade 9 student is enrolled in Honors Biology, that student may want to take the biology SAT Subject Test in June.
