Freshman Reimagines Pokémon Go for Suburban Players

Shane Brunswick ’20 developed a parody of the wildly popular Pokémon Go called Pokémon Go: Suburban Version.
Created out of his frustration of the lack of Pokémon while playing the game in his neighborhood, the game draws attention to the difficulties of playing in the suburbs. Says Shane, “I decided to create this game because I thought it would be a great and fun way to send a message to Niantic, the company that created Pokémon Go, and get their attention regarding the lack of Pokémon in suburban/rural areas.”

A passionate video game developer and player, Shane taught himself JavaScript over the summer in order to develop the game. Developing games is not new for Shane, as he created his earliest games in the third grade using programs Multimedia Fusion and GameSalad. He wants to continue improving his coding skills and hopes to create more games in the future.

Shane has received national and international attention for his game. Read an article on Pokémon Go: Suburban Version that appeared on Yahoo.
