Milken Parents Share Personal Stories of Iranian Revolution

Insights culminate the grade 7 year-long study of theocracy in Humanities.
As part of the their survey of world governments, Humanities 7 students have examined the Iranian Revolution and subsequent dictatorship led by the Ayatollah Khomeini. To provide multiple perspectives of that time, some of Milken's own Persian Jewish community described their personal experiences to students.

A panel of Milken parents who fled Iran as young children, most of whom were around the age of our own middle school students when they left, spoke to 7th grade students on Thursday, May 14. Students listened with rapt attention as parents detailed stories of friendships lost to anti-Semitism, unexpected kindness and support from Muslim neighbors, and heartbreaking separation from family members during the emigration process.

It was an incredibly meaningful event for all involved. After the discussion, one of the panelists' own children reflected, "I'd never heard my dad tell that story before. He really went through a lot."
