Student Film Strikes Chord with Audiences

Kol Hakavod to student filmmakers Justin Binder '17, Kayla Mossanen '16, and Tammy Shine '17.
Their film Curt Lowens: A Life of Change recently won Best Overall at the Harvard-Westlake Film Festival held at the ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood. There were 244 films submitted from all over California and only 20 were selected for the festival.

The film continues to gain traction and is racking up awards and invitations to film festivals. Most recently, it was accepted to Cine Youth, which is part of the Chicago International Film Festival, and the L.A. Film Festival and Future Filmmaker Showcase on June 13.

Created in collaboration with other Los Angeles high school students and mentor filmmakers, the powerful six-minute film, which profiles Holocaust survivor and member of the Dutch resistance Curt Lowens, was made as part of the Righteous Conversations filmmaking class held last summer.
