Milken Community High School is committed to Education Technology as an integral part in teaching and learning excellence. The School’s network and FirstClass collaborative environment provide students access to library resources, a wide range of programs, shared collaborative spaces, e-mail, and the Internet. All students have access to these resources through the over 200 computer workstations, portable laptop carts, and their own personal laptop computers.
The Smith Family Library is a technological center of the School technology program and hosts a computer classroom, 15 computer workstations for research and a new Technology supported student writing center. In addition there are eight "hightech" classrooms and computers are available in every classroom throughout the school. Students are able to access many shared resources from home using a customized FirstClass collaborative software environment.
The school integrates technology in meaningful ways throuhgout all aspects of the curriculum. This includes the 21st Century skills of information literacy, digital design and communication, computer-based collaboration, media literacy, appropriate and ethical use of software and technology, and the use of databases and spreadsheets as research and investigation tools.
The School develops students as independent and thoughtful users of technology, effective researchers, prepare them for a technological college environment, and develop their 21st Century skills.
