Fall 2009

Dear Prospective Student(s) and Parent(s),

gabby_lg

We are happy that you have chosen to learn more about Milken Community High School. Philosophically and pedagogically, Milken believes in educating the whole child and seeks to cultivate each student’s mind, heart and soul. Our foundation is built on the highest academic standards and on promoting Jewish ethical and spiritual values.  We foster personal confidence, critical thinking skills and creativity while supporting and challenging students in their path to finding their passions and shaping their identities. Milken’s innovative academic and extra-curricular program is implemented by highly qualified educators who are experts in their field and are committed to individualizing the experience for each student. Our state-of-the-art facility promotes exploration and discovering while fostering a safe environment where students are encouraged to take the risks necessary to reach and surpass their potential. Our admission process supports this goal by admitting students and families who are committed to the mission of our school and who will be active and positive members of our dynamic learning community.

Understanding that selecting a secondary school is one of the most important decisions you will make as a family, we offer both our application packet and our newly revamped website (www.MilkenSchool.org) as avenues to learn even more about our school.  We believe, however, that the very best way to experience Milken is to join us for a visit.

Mondays@Milken, offered throughout the fall and winter months, are informal events for prospective parents to serve as an introduction to our School’s academic and extra-curricular programs and teaching and administrative staff.  Following the formal program, parent docents lead group tours and faculty and administrators are on-hand to answer questions and provide insight.

Open Houses provide the most thorough view of the School and are essential to the application process. By exploring our elective fair, attending mini-class sessions and by talking directly with current students, applicants are able to appreciate the extensive programmatic and curricular offerings while familiarizing themselves with our community.

And finally, the most intimate way to experience Milken is by taking a private tour of our campus. This docent-guided tour will be scheduled once the Admission Office has received the completed Student and Parent Application and will occur directly after the applicant’s interview.  At this time, applicants will observe students in their classroom environment, speak with faculty and experience community life on our campus.

If I can be of any assistance to you in this process, please do not hesitate to contact me or another member of our admission team. Thank you for your interest in Milken Community High School.

Most Sincerely,

Gabrielle McHale
Director of Admission
