Searchable Databases

There are numerous searchable databases available to Milken students at the Smith Family Library.  These databases offer valuable resources in enabling a student's success.  

Questia School is the world's largest online collection of electronic books and journal articles in the humanities and social sciences, plus magazine and newspaper articles. Search the books and journal articles by keyword, title, author, or subject.  Each student and faculty member can get a unique user name and password. Includes teacher resources.

EbscoHost  EBSCO Information Services is a worldwide leader in providing information access and management solutions through print and electronic journal subscription services, research database development and production, online access to more than 100 databases and thousands of e-journals, and e-books. Includes teacher resources. 

ProQuest offers electronic collections containing millions of articles originally published in magazines, newspapers and journals. Students can search these collections for articles on subjects that interest them or that will help with their research or school work. 

Facts On File  Facts On File's Online Reference Databases are curriculum-oriented, interactive databases covering a wide range of subjects, such as history, science, literature, geography and more. Includes teacher resources.   

Gale Literature Resource Center hosts an extensive collection of critical essays on contemporary authors, plus access to biographies, bibliographies and critical analysis on authors from every age. 

Gale U.S. History In Context provides access to over 4,000 historical (primary) documents, articles from nearly 100 reference titles, and over half of a million journal articles covering themes, events, individuals and periods in U.S. history from Pre-Colonial to the present. Includes teacher resources. 

Gale Global Issues In Context provides perspectives on international news and events of the day. Includes teacher resources.

Electric Library provides thousands of full-text articles, documents, photographs, television/radio transcripts and maps. 

World Book Encyclopedia offers over 31,000 articles, 15,000 recommended web links, 25,000 periodical articles, 8,000 pictures, 800 videos, animations, and sounds, and over 700 maps. 

Oxford English Dictionary is the accepted authority on the evolution of the English language over the last millennium. It is an unsurpassed guide to the meaning, history and pronunciation of over half a million words, both present and past. It traces the usage of words through 2.5 million quotations from a wide range of international English language sources, from classic literature and specialist periodicals to film scripts and cookery books.
