Reference and Referral
If you need help finding books or articles, please ask one of our librarians for help. They are happy to help students locate resources in the library or help find the materials at another library. Students can schedule time with librarians for personalized online and print research sessions.
Books
The Smith Library has more than 13,000 general, Judaic, and reference books available for reading and research.
Books can be located in the library's online catalog, which is available through the FirstClass Library Resources folder on- or off-campus.
Books can be checked out for two weeks and then renewed; there is an overdue charge of $.05 a day.
Periodicals
The Smith Library receives many literary, news and entertainment magazines. Students can use the library to read any newspaper or periodical. Periodicals are saved for a period of six months.
Searchable Databases
Periodical databases include ProQuest, EbscoHost, and Electric Library. World Book Encyclopedia is also available on the School network. In addition, the library offers access to Gale Literature Resource Center, Gale U.S. History In Context and Global Issues In Context, Facts On File, Oxford English Dictionary, and CD-ROM access to Encyclopedia Judaica.
Videos
The Smith Library has more than 700 VHS videos, DVDs, and music CDs available for classroom use. The collection includes a wide-range of general and Jewish films and documentaries.
Multimedia Equipment
The library loans out Amazon Kindle electronic book readers loaded with e-books to students and faculty. It also loans Proxima desktop projectors and digital cameras to faculty and staff.
Computers and Word Processors
The Smith Library has seven computer stations available for accessing its online catalog, researching electronic resources and the Web, word processing and more. Students need to have the appropriate log in and password information to get onto the network and to print. The library also has nine AlphaSmart 3000 portable word processors for loan to students and teachers.
Copies
The library has a copy machine, and copies are $.10 each.
